Cornwall

We crossed the Tamar River into Cornwall this morning on the train.  A pretty scenic ride.

Headed to St Austell to the "Eden Project".  It was a China Clay Pit in 1998.

In 1999 it became the Eden Project and has a series of Biome structures demonstrating regeneration of the land and our dependence on plants.  It was pretty amazing.

Made of driftwood

One of the dome structures is a rain forest and the other a Mediterranean project.  The Rain Forest was hot (first time we've been hot since our arrival in Great Britain).  We were not dressed for hot as it was not expected that the temperature would rise above 59 today.  Oops, wasn't counting on a rain forest hot box.  I was hoping to make this outfit last until Bristol, but after sweating for an hour, I may have to re-think that

The Mediterranean Biome was much more pleasant and was very reminiscent of Greece and Italy.

Around the domes are other gardens with plants that have been placed there over the years the project has been going.  Many of the gardens are actually produce like lettuce and onions and herbs that make a lovely flower garden.

The entire clay pit has been regenerated into a lush landscape and shows what can be done to re-claim the land.  We had lunch at one of the several cafes on  the property and then headed back to Plymouth. On the train ride back we happened to sit in front of two gents, one of which had spent his lunch hour in the pub.  I'm not sure, but I think I might have gotten a little drunk on the fumes coming over the seat back.  He became a little obnoxious with the lady ticket attendant and she summoned the  "train police".  He was very polite with the gent but they all detrained at the next station including the police.  The remainder of the trip was quiet and after climbing the 62 steps, we are now resting a little before we head out to find dinner.  More later. Tomorrow is a travel day by train to Bristol.
