After breakfast, we had vouchers for the "Floibanen" or funicular that goes to the top of the mountain behind the seaport. We headed in that direction
and it took us through the "Fish Market" the other place that the guide books say not to miss. It's true, if you're ever in Bergen, its worth a visit. Most people who know me, know I am not a fish person, but this may be the only fish market I have been in that doesn't smell like fish. Open air and really fresh.
We asked what the long hanging stuff was and the man behind the counter said it is dried Cod. An old tradition for preserving the Cod. It is air dried and then when they want to use it they put it in water and re-hydrate it. He said it is best if used before 35 years. Ha
Hey I tasted whale meat. One of the venders offered a taste. It was sliced very thin and cooked. It was not the least bit fishy; kind of tasted like beef. Quite good.
Terry's newest beau; Mr. troll
We decided to walk down instead of taking the cable car. Really dumb decision if you ask our legs and feet; but the walk was pretty through the witchy woodsThese little rock monuments were all along the trail. Built by hikers; maybe to keep the witches away.
A few more steps and we can have lunch and rest our jelly legs and aching knees. We are going to the fish market that we were in this morning. The walk down took about 45 minutes. Seemed way longer.
The best lunch I've had. Shrimp grilled on a stick with peppers, onions and mushrooms grilled and a small salad. Yum! Yum! Yum!
Should have gone back to the fish market. My chicken was cooked so long it was tough and dry; and to boot the wine was baaaaad. Second worst meal. We walked back to our hotel and had a really good wine in the little cellar bar, which was very cute.
