On our way to Bergen (Oslo to Myrdal)

We walked to the train station right next to our hotel for an early eightish departure from Oslo to Myrdal where we will transfer to the Flambana train that winds down the mountain to Flam.

We kept watching for our Malaysian friends who were supposed to be on the same train, but we never saw them before we boarded.  Wonder what happened to them?

On the way to Myrdal the scenery was beautiful, but the pictures do not do it justice as they are taken from the moviing train through windows.  Not much narrative needed.

Coffee on a moving train

Starting to get into more glacier like country and the water color is changing to look more like glacier run off than rivers.

Sitting across from us were several high school biology students who were on their way into these mountains to collect specimens of flora, fauna etc.  We saw a lot of white trunked trees which I knew were not Aspen, but thought they were probably related.  One of the boys said they were Birch which is indeed in the same family.  Since the terrain was looking kind of glacial, I asked if there were any in Norway and he said we would be passing by some of them.

Stopped in a little place called Finse and the boys and girls all got off here

Arrive Myrdal.
No problem finding our next departure track.  It is on the other side of this building. Only two tracks period.

Forgot to get a picture of the Flam train, which was old.  The weather today is great.  High cumulus clouds and sun.  Next the trip down the mountain.
