Oslo, Norway (Cont'd day 1)

Oh yeah, forgot the cab dropped us and at least three of the Malaysian ladies (all in different cabs) at the wrong Comfort Hotel. We ended up dragging our luggage a couple more blocks to the right hotel next to Central Station.  When we arrived, the rest of the Malaysian ladies were in the lobby waiting to check in.

Ok luggage stowed in room we are off to the Oslo Opera House to walk on its roof!  Yep that is correct!    The Opera House is just across from our hotel and it is constructed totally of marble and granite the roof flows all the way down to ground level.  Pretty neat.  Cost billions whether in Kroners, Euros or Dollars. The building is situated in the Bjørvika neighborhood of central Oslo, at the head of the Oslofjord
These large pictures in front are different operas and ballets that have been presented.

The way to the top

"Several art projects were commissioned for the interior and exterior of the Opera House. The most notable is She Lies, a sculpture constructed of stainless steel and glass panels by Monica Bonvicini. It is permanently installed on a concrete platform in the fjord adjacent to Opera House and floats on the water moving in response to tides and wind to create an ever-changing face to viewers. The work was unveiled by Her Majesty Queen Sonja on 11 May 2010".

It started to rain so we went back to the hotel to clean up and rest before finding dinner.

We walked up the Main Street which is pedestrian and and walked into the square where the Grand Hotel and Parliament buildings are located, so better pictures to come.

Some sort of rally or speech going on at Parliament.  Lots of people
A lovely park on the square

We walked on down past the City Hall to the Harbor and it was the most perfect time of the day for pictures.  The sun shining low in the sky.  just beautiful

Don't know who this was, but very shiny personality

Found a place for dinner and met some new friends. Terry tried really hard to strike up a conversation, but....
They were pretty much just into themselves.

Anyway, this was the worst dinner I have had.  Ordered a half lobster with salad.  The lobster was tiny (might have been four bites), cold and no warm butter.  The salad had no dressing except oil.  Paid $50.00.  It was disappointing to say the least.  I think I may be on a diet in Scandinavia. Ha.

We walked back through the city to our hotel and of course everything was lit.

Tomorrow we take the train to Myrdal then the Flambana to  Flam where we board a boat to Bergen via the Sognefjord.
